Mission Hills, CA, September 29, 2023 – UNICOM® Global has announced that its mainframe software will provide day one support for IBM’s new z/OS V3.1 operating system, which will provide a framework for ensuring AI is threaded throughout the system, enabling intelligent systems administration guidance and automation that learns and improves on IBM Z.
As an IBM Partner in Development, UNICOM has worked closely with IBM to ensure that its mainframe products will support z/OS V3.1 on its release. This will allow UNICOM customers to benefit immediately from new capabilities to scale the value of data and drive digital transformation powered by AI, as well as build and modernize new and existing applications and workloads with a flexible hybrid cloud strategy. There is also exceptional resilience and security capabilities and improvements to the developer experience.
Larry Lawler, Chief Technology Officer at UNICOM Global, said, “Our goal at UNICOM is to help our customers get maximum value from the mainframe. Enabling on-Chip AI is an important step for a mainframe hybrid cloud strategy and it’s great to see a range of new features which will help achieve this.
“In particular, there is an AI-powered workload manager (WLM) and the IBM SMF Explorer which will help customers access SMF data and extract insights easily. There’s also improved performance and security from the z/OS Container Extensions (zCX) and enhanced COBOL-Java interoperability. And the functionality of the z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF) has been enhanced to help system programmers of all levels manage z/OS day-to-day operations more easily.
“There is a huge amount of business-critical data on the mainframe, so we are excited that these new AI features that are designed to give businesses new insights from their mainframe data, will help them improve their decision-making.”
UNICOM develops solutions to help enterprises accelerate deployment of mainframe applications, optimize system performance, and modernize user experience, and to drive successful digital transformation projects based on accurate insights from their operational business and technical environments.
